Strategy, Uncaged
Smart creative starts with sharp clarity.
Before we design a character or animate a frame, we get clear on three things: what your brand stands for, who it needs to reach and what the work needs to accomplish.
That clarity gives every creative decision a job. It shapes the character, the story, the voice and the way the idea can extend across campaigns and channels.
Strategy at Zookeeper is practical. It helps your team make better decisions, build stronger creative and create brand assets that can keep working long after one campaign ends.
What this means for you
- Your mascot becomes more than a campaign device. It becomes recognizable brand IP.
- Your campaigns connect instead of starting over each time.
- Every new story builds on a system your audience can recognize and remember.
What We Uncover
- Brand Attributes
A clear set of characteristics that define how your brand should look, sound and behave. - Audience Insight
Real behavioral profiles built around what your audience needs, fears and values. These insights help shape messages that connect. - Narrative Spine
The central story your brand can return to across campaigns, characters and channels. - Opportunity Map
A practical view of where the brand should show up, what it should say and which creative opportunities are worth pursuing.
Our Core Systems
- SignalMap™
SignalMap™ clarifies the audience, category and competitive landscape. It helps us identify what your brand can own and where it has the best chance to be remembered. - CharacterCode™
CharacterCode™ defines the strategic role of a brand character from the inside out. We establish its personality, emotional role, narrative function, movement and visual cues before design begins. - Zoolab™
Zoolab™ is a focused working session where your stakeholders and our team make the decisions needed to move forward. You bring the people who know the business. We bring the questions, exercises and creative perspective.
Depending on the assignment, we may also develop voice, audience, motion, identity, narrative and rollout tools.
How We Work
Weeks 0 and 1: Intake
We interview key stakeholders, review existing assets and identify the decisions that need to be made.
Week 1: Zoolab™
We bring the right people together for a focused strategy session. The goal is not more discussion. The goal is clear decisions about the brand, audience and creative direction.
Weeks 2 and 3: Build
We develop the strategic tools required for the assignment. This may include SignalMap™, audience profiles, voice guidance and CharacterCode™.
Weeks 3 and 4: Playback
We present the system, test it against real scenarios and refine it with your team. At the end, you have a clear foundation that can move directly into animation, identity or campaign development.

Why This Matters
Paid campaigns end. Algorithms change. A well-built character can keep working across both.
Strategy helps turn a single piece of creative into a lasting brand asset. It gives the character a clear role, gives your team a consistent system and gives future campaigns something recognizable to build on.
The result is work that can grow, adapt and become more valuable over time.
FAQs
Can we skip strategy and go straight to animation?
Yes, when the strategic foundation is already clear.
When it is not, jumping directly into animation usually creates more rounds of feedback, weaker ideas and a character with no clear role. A focused strategy phase helps everyone make better creative decisions from the start.
How quickly can this move?
Basecamp™ typically takes 2 to 3 weeks. Deep Character™ typically takes 4 to 6 weeks. The System™ typically takes 6 to 8 weeks.
When a project needs to move faster, we can shape the process around the decisions that matter most.
Who needs to be involved?
We recommend including one decision-maker, one person responsible for the brand and one person who understands the customer.
The group should be large enough to create internal support but small enough to make decisions.
What do we own?
You own the final materials included in your selected program, including decks, voice guidance, identity assets and approved character strategy.
When character development is included, the proposal will clearly define the ownership and usage terms for the final character assets.
